Malai x Eva Klabalova & Lucie Trejtnarova

Over time we have received many inquiries asking if our materials can be used in the footwear industry. We have been testing the use of Malai for this application for over a year now and we are happy to offer you the first commercially available  model of sandals now!  Wanna try how coconut leather feels while walking?

These sandals were designed and made by two designers close to our heart – Eva Klabalova & Lucie Trejtnarova.
Lucie was our first intern at Malai back in 2018 and we have seen many beautiful prototypes made by her. Her diploma project collection called Organic was exploring the potential of organic materials for shoe making.
Eva has been experimenting with Malai for over a year now and we have received a lot of valuable feedback from her.
Both the designers are based in Zlin, Czech republic where they run shoe making workshops and work on establishing their own shoe design practices. Eva is also a founder of a Czech sneaker label called KAVE which makes sneakers on old Bata machines in Zlin using rubber leftovers from factories for making the outsoles.

The sandals were design on occasion of running our crowdfunding campaign in October/November 2019 where they were available as rewards. The upper is made of 550 gsm Madder red Malai biocomposite, insole is made from press formed cork. They are also available on backorder (size 36-46) and shipped from Czech Republic where they are handmade by both of the designers.
