Malai
Today we celebrate the world environment day. Sinc Today we celebrate the world environment day. Since its beginning in 1974, World Environment Day has developed into a global platform for raising awareness and taking action on urgent issues from marine pollution and global warming to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
A lot has been written on our relation to environment recently and we here at Malai were thinking what could we encourage everyone to do for the benefit of our environment.
We are not sure when and at what point humanity decided that running large scale industries the way we currently do is ok for the environment. And trying to reduce them does not come into picture given our levels of consumption. It’s impossible to go back. But how do we go forward from here?
No big player wants and opts to be radical given the risks and losses involved - in most of the cases it’s just less bad. Fixing surface problems of something that already works inefficiently will not result in a good practice, it will just become even more complex and have more dependencies attached to it.
Development of sustainable practices has to stand a test of time in order to refine and prove itself as a good practice. But in the times where no-one has time to spare how are we going to foster development of such practices?
Today we’d like to congratulate and give our respect to all of the practices that strive to put the environment first in spite of all the complexities surrounding it. Thank you for all your efforts, thank you for your strength. Thank you for your positive vision for the world.
Thanks also to all the people who strive to cherish our environment on individual level, let’s bring our collective consciousness and awareness to something that truly unites us - our home, our planet - and care for it.
And for those of you who ‘d like to do something good - get a composter today if you don’t have it already! Little everyday habit of putting your organic waste in a compost can go far when it comes to doing good for the environment :-) Here is an earthworm munching on piece of Malai in the compost ;) #worldenvironmentday #unity #environment #compost #sustainability #sustainableliving
Fast fashion - fashion that flows from the catwalk Fast fashion - fashion that flows from the catwalk straight to the sweatshops and then to the stores. It seems instant but it’s far from being as easy to make as noodles.
Incredible amounts of material resources and energy are used not mentioning the unbelievable rates makers are paid for work that is complex and labour intensive.
Wouldn’t it be cool if fast fashion had a different meaning ?
A fashion that is easy on resources & environment, easy to assemble and easy to recycle / compost ?
Here is our little demonstration, there are many interesting alternatives to what we call fast fashion today.
What are your favorites? .

Hello, hoping you have a nice Sunday coconut lover Hello, hoping you have a nice Sunday coconut lovers :) Many of you often wonder is Malai is waterproof.
Malai is water resistant on both the surfaces but not throughout the material.
We also recommend to give it a nice wax ( you can use beeswax or carnauba wax) coating before you convert it into some nice product. It will give your material further protection as well as bring out the beautiful texture on it.
Here is our short tutorial on how it can be done at home - if you have a piece of Malai laying around somewhere give it a try and let us know how did it go ;) .
